Initiative Uplifts Achievement and Supports Black Student Success in Higher Education

BLU Educational Foundation (BLU) is proud to participate in Black Student Success Week (April 20-24), a statewide initiative dedicated to advancing educational equity and supporting the academic success of Black and African American students.
Observed annually during the last week of April, Black Student Success Week was launched in 2020 by a coalition of California community college leaders to address systemic inequities and improve outcomes for Black students.
Throughout the week, BLU Educational Foundation will host a series of events in partnership with San Bernardino Valley College including workshops and other student events, the 5th Annual Inland Empire Black Education Congress, and a student success resource fair:
Monday April 20: Black Student Success Week Kickoff
Tuesday April 21: Transfer Success Day
Wednesday April 22: Inland Empire Black Education Congress
Thursday April 23: Blackout Game Night
Friday April 24: Black Excellence Day & Student Success Resource Fair
In addition, BLU will release daily original podcast episodes throughout the week, featuring interviews with students and educators sharing what Black student success looks like in action. Podcast episodes will be available on BLU’s YouTube page and on our website (www.bluedfoundation.org/blackstudentsuccessweek).
“Black Student Success Week is a vital time to honor the excellence and tenacity of our students. We must uplift their voices not just this week, but every day,” said M’Cheala Prince, College Success Manager at BLU Educational Foundation. “In an academic landscape where Black representation often hovers around 4%, pouring into these students is about more than just support; it’s about creating the access, unity, and community they deserve.”
Black Student Success Week serves as both a celebration and a call to action. It honors the achievements, resilience, and brilliance of Black students while advancing strategies that promote access, belonging, and success in higher education.
Community members, students, educators, and partners are invited to participate in this important week of learning, reflection, and advocacy.
